| Why travel overseas for medical treatment? |
|
Uninsured, underinsured, procedures not covered by insurance, procedures not available and long wait periods. These are just a few of the most important and deciding factors for the majority of Medical Travelers.
- According to US census data, 47 million Americans do not have health insurance and of the 250 millions who do, many have policies that do not cover certain medical procedures. Some procedures are only partially covered and this puts a huge financial burden on patients.
- Both India and Thailand are fast becoming much sought after places for Medical Travelers:
- India, Thailand, and Singapore are caring for about 1.3 million patients per year and it is increasing by more than 20 to 30 percent each year
- These countries have world-class hospitals that offer the best medical treatment at a significantly low cost
- These countries have highly skilled and trained physicians who are fluent in English and compassionate and caring in nature
As the premiums for health Insurance and cost of treatment are rising continuously in U.S., and wait periods are getting longer in Canada and the UK, more and more patients are looking to other countries for their medical needs. Most Americans are doing it to save money and others to get procedures done sooner. Being overseas also provides an opportunity to do some sight seeing as well and may combine their medical needs with a much needed vacation. |
